Meet the Horizon is a blog exploring how disability, education, government and caregiving shape the lives of disabled people and their families.
As the parent of a wonderful autistic young woman with an Intellectual Disability, I’ve spent years navigating special education and being involved in local education and disability issues. Those experiences have led me to ask how public policies and institutions can either create opportunity or reinforce inequity.
Here you’ll find writing about special education, disability, sustainable caregiving, local government, housing and adult services, politics and the practical realities families face when public systems don’t work the way they should. My hope is that by examining how these structures work, and where they don’t, we can imagine, advocate for, and build something better.
